Our Secondary School Science sessions give students a hands on experience at pellet and spraint dissection as well as animal and plant surveying. Take a look at the different sessions on offer below.

Inspiring Ecosystems

Students explore different types of habitat and get to grips with surveying techniques used by scientists to monitor biodiversity. Students will make and record observations and measurements using a range of methods for different investigations; and evaluate the reliability of methods and suggest possible improvements.

Without a Trace

Students learn survival skills through this bush craft themed session with an environmental message. This session develops understanding of how human and physical processes interact and our responsibility to recognise that the Earth is a source of limited resources. Through shelter building they will work objectively, modifying explanations to take account of new evidence and ideas and subjecting results to peer review.

All about the Birds

Let your students get closer to wildlife as they study a range of different bird species in this interactive session at Linford Lakes Nature Reserve. Students will consider the links between structure and function in living organisms and apply their scientific knowledge to explain adaptation and evolution.

Tracks and Traps

Let your students be wildlife detectives as they investigate the evidence left behind by the birds and mammals that call Linford Lakes Nature Reserve their home. By asking questions to work out who the tracks belong to they will develop a line of enquiry based on observations of the real world, alongside prior knowledge and experience.

Students get to try their hand at different observation, surveying and measuring techniques used by geographers and scientists to monitor species and understand the natural world. They will collect, analyse and communicate with a range of data.
