Explore the rich cultural diversity of Milton Keynes in this guided walk. The route can cover Campbell Park or Willen Lake to include key sites such as the Tree Cathedral and Peace Pagoda.

This session explores the themes relevant to Religious Education, the Sociology of Religion and Citizenship. During a guided walk, students will see a range of buildings, outdoor spaces and artworks and have the opportunity to discuss the significance of these for the people of Milton Keynes as a unique New Town. Can the same piece be interpreted as both sacred and profane and what role does civil religion play for the local community?

This session encourages students to think about the diverse communities of Milton Keynes and the changing role of religion, spirituality and belief in the 21st century. 

Suitable for Key Stages 3, 4 or 5.

RE - Exploring the concepts of religion and belief and their roles in the spiritual, moral and cultural lives of people in a diverse society helps individuals develop moral awareness and social understanding. The community within which the school is located, RE provides opportunities to investigate patterns of diversity of religion and belief and forge links with different groups in the local area.

Key Stage 3 Citizenship - The precious liberties enjoyed by the citizens of the United Kingdom.

Key Stage 4 Citizenship - The roles played by public institutions and voluntary groups in society, and the ways in which citizens work together to improve their communities. Diverse national, regional, religious and ethnic identities in the United Kingdom and the need for mutual respect and understanding the different ways in which a citizen can contribute to the improvement of his or her community, to include the opportunity to participate actively in community volunteering, as well as other forms of responsible activity.
