Concrete Cows by Liz Leyh & Bill Billings (1978)
Discover the famous Concrete Cows in North Loughton Valley Park that Liz Leyh originally created in collaboration with the community for the Milton Keynes Development Corporation. There are two sets of Concrete Cows, with the replica by Bill Billings residing in the park, while the original public art piece can be found at the Milton Keynes Museum in Wolverton. The herd consists of three cows and three calves, scaled down to half the size of real animals. Like the Triceratops, the Concrete Cows are created with concrete and chicken wire, embodying the city's artistic spirit and community collaboration.
Liz Leyh is an American sculptor who arrived in Milton Keynes in 1974 as an artist in residence in the New Town. Educated in Syracuse and New York where Liz achieved a Master of Fine Arts degree, Liz moved to Britain with her husband and started her career creating sculptures and murals in local communities such as Shoreham and London prior to moving to the New Town in 1974 to Stacey Hill Farm which had been converted into use for community projects.
