About Oxley Park

The parkland includes a number of ponds that are designed as a Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS) which are part of the city's network of flood defences.

SUDS are designed to store water run-off from roads, paths, car parks and roofs during and after periods of heavy rainfall. The water is stored in dry ditches (swales), ponds and wetlands and then released at a controlled rate into Shenley Brook and eventually Furzton Lake. The water levels in the ponds are carefully designed to fluctuate and in extreme weather can rise.

Play Areas

Explore the park to find the variety of play areas in Oxley Park. Each group of equipment is separated into the different ages groups and abilities from 2 up to 12 years old.

Overall, the play areas feature climbing frames from small bridges and huts for toddlers to large triangular climbing net for those older. Toddler swings to a 5 seat swing. Rockers and a Carousel for the young to balance beans and bridge to test agility. There are benches provided. The play areas are not enclosed.

Oxley Park is not far from Shenley Wood, so why not make a day of it and tie in a visit to the Linear Park play areas with a walk around one of your local ancient woodlands?
