Workshop: Moth Night
Due to popular demand, Moth Night is back for 2025! Join us at Howe Park Wood for an evening of moth trapping and identification with a local expert.
After a couple of year's absence, and due to popular demand, Moth Night is back on Thursday 29th May 2025!
During this event we will be setting up a "moth trap" (a light box which attracts moths) so that we can get up close and personal with some of the night-flying moths of MK! Our local expert and volunteer will be leading discussions, giving information and helping to identify the species that we trap. The moths will be kept in the box overnight and released early the next morning after they have been recorded for the global database, helping us know more about population trends across the globe.
This workshop will be taking place entirely outside (please wear appropriate clothing for the temperature), however we do have access to the indoor toilet facilities which includes a disabled toilet. There are paved paths leading to the Education Centre, however we will likely be stationed on a grassy patch where the ground can be slightly uneven with a very slight gradient. We will not be stationed at the moth trap, not moving around very much. There are some picnic benches nearby, but we are also able to bring along small pop-up chairs and stools if requested in advance. Toilets are available at this location. The nearest place for refreshments is the Westcroft Centre. A hearing loop is available on request also, please contact us on outdoorlearning@theparkstrust.com for any further accessibility information or support.
This workshop is suitable for anyone age 12+ with an interest in wildlife. All under 18s must be accompanied by a paying adult. Booking is essential.
