Tree Planting at Howe Park Wood
Tree Planting at Howe Park Wood
Would you like to take part in planting oak trees in the ancient woodlands of Howe Park Wood? Citizens across MK have been taking part in the challenge to grow oaks from acorns collected from our three ancient woodlands: Shenley, Linford and Howe Park Wood. Many are now ready to be planted out to help replace the ash that is dying of ash dieback. It is vital that the tree canopy is maintained and that the mix of trees and understory continues so that habitats can be protected.
Due to the nature of the planting area and the sensitivity of the site, planting is for adults only. The soil conditions will also mean that this is physically challenging so please consider this when signing up. We will be on hand if you need help.
If you register for a free ticket, please ensure you can come. It is essential that we have enough people to plant during these sessions as the roots of the trees will be damaged unless we can get them in the ground quickly. Our Direct Works Team can plant any that are allocated to them, but we must know in advance so let us know if you can no longer attend as soon as possible.
We will provide equipment such as spades and gloves, but please wear appropriate footwear and layers. We will plant in almost all weathers (except in high winds) so please check the forecast to decide what to wear and do not register if you are worried about getting a bit wet!
This is a great opportunity to help our local (and global) environment and we hope that many of you can join us in this planting project.
The session will take place on Monday 10th February, 10.00 am to 11.30am at Howe Park Wood.
Please note, if you are an adult community group and would like to book another session, please contact us on outdoorlearning@theparkstrust.com.
